Opportunity to participate in Spring/Summer 2026 Stream Work:

May 12, 2026:  Stock Fish on Divide Lake with Kid’s.   10 a.m at Divide Lake (click here for map). Third graders from Silver Bay Elementary School put rainbow trout in the lake with MN DNR and volunteers’ help. Always a fun event, and some of the volunteers stay for lunch (bring your own) and go fishing (bring your own water craft). Call Peder  Yurista if you have questions and would like to help so he knows how many volunteers he has coming. (218-464-1521)

May 16-17, 2026 Uskabwanka River Tree Planting and Trash Clean Up: May 16th (Saturday, 9 am) Click here for map. There is trash to pick up at Pool 2 and trees to plant. Bring gloves for planting and trash pickup. Peder Yurista is willing to go back and work more if Sunday, May 17th is a better day (1:00 pm).  It will be wood tick season, so spray clothing with tick repellent beforehand. Please call Peder if you can volunteer for either day.  (218-464-1521)

May 30-31, 2026 Temperature Logger Placement at Gooseberry  There will be more specific information to come after Peder meets with the DNR. If you can volunteer, bring back packs to carry loggers (not heavy) , water shoes to wet wade. Not everyone has to be in the water. Some place the loggers and others secure them to the banks. Bring wire cutters and pliers. (Peder 218-464-1521)

May-June 2026:  Setting up a Committee to organize a  ‘Fish for Bass and Science Event. Help to plan a weekend or two weekends to fish and catch bass on the upper Cloquet River. Once a bass is caught, a location is logged along the river (GPS),  a few scales are removed, and the fish is measured. The information will be given to MN DNR for analysis.  Base camp will probably be at Indian Lake and shuttles will be run. Looking for volunteers. You can sign up at the next club meeting (May 19th) or at the June 16th picnic. The event will run mid-July to mid-August, and you can also go with a partner at other times during that month.  Call Peder if you are interested.  218-464-1521
